CEUs have been applied for with the Iowa Board of Certification

According to the Centers for Disease Control, “A prescription drug monitoring program (PMP) is an electronic database that tracks controlled substance prescriptions in a state.” PMPs are a lot more than just a database, however, and  can provide stakeholders with timely, valid and reliable information regarding prescription medication usage and trends.

Since 2009, the Iowa Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) has provided Iowa prescribers and pharmacists with information regarding their patients’ use of controlled substances. The Iowa PMP is a useful tool to help providers determine appropriate prescribing and treatment of patients without fear of contributing to a patient’s abuse of or dependence on addictive drugs or diversion of those drugs to illicit use.

This webinar will provide an overview of the PMP specifically for prevention providers and will cover the following:

· Overview and history of the PMP

· Access and usage

· Trends and best practices

· PMP related efforts in Iowa
