Gambling: Criminal Justice

This session will introduce the need for a relationship with the justice system to help in diagnosing and treating disordered gambling clients.

Objectives:

  • Participants will understand the prevalence of disordered gamblers in the judicial system and their most likely entrance points into the justice system.
  • Participants will be given the 5 “R’s” of reporting to the justice system on the recovery progress of disordered gambling clients.

Gambling: Family Dynamics – Part 1

This session will introduce the family role in recovery and the diagnostics used to help family members understand their role in addiction.

Objectives:

  • Participants will begin to understand the similarities and differences in co-dependency between SUD and Gambling Disorder.
  • Participants will be introduced to the integration of family into gambling disorder recovery process.

Gambling: Finances – Part 4

This session covers the counselor’s ongoing role in maintaining the budgeting process to insure “pressure relief” and the ability to continue in the recovery process.

Objectives:

  • Participants will be given the tools for ongoing revisiting of the prepared budget
  • Participants will be given the tools to “fix” the budget should relapse or unexpected expenses happen.

Gambling: Finances – Part 3

This session will help counselors deal with creditors and others in developing a restitution plan to pay back all those they have harmed.

Objectives:

  • Participants will be introduced to questions needed to complete for an accurate budget to be completed.
  • Participants will be given hands on testing of the tools based on their own budgeting skills.

Gambling: Finances – Part 2

This session will concentrate on the counselor’s role in assisting an individual to develop a budget that is sustainable in early recovery.

Objectives:

  • Participants will understand their role in the development of a budget for recovery of disordered gambling clients.
  • Participants will be given tools to help in development of the financial budget for their clients.

Gambling Counseling – Part 4

This session will concentrate of discharge criteria and how clients with disordered gambling can show signs of increased SUD issues.

Objectives:

  • Participants will understand the “later” stages of recovery
  • Participants will be given tools to help in the discharge and integration of the recovering disordered client back into self-care.

Gambling: Finances – Part 1

This session will introduce the importance of restoring finances is in the recovery of addictions both SUD and Gambling Disorder.   

Objectives:

  • Participants will understand the important role of restoring finances as a foundation of recovery
  • Participants will understand the role of finances and money in the progression and recovery of gambling disorder.

Gambling Counseling – Part 2

This session will concentrate on the counselors skills needed to work with disordered clients in the early stages of recovery. Time will be spent on dual diagnosis SA clients and early stage recovery from both disorders. 

Objectives:

  • Participants will understand the timelines of recovery.
  • Participants will understand the milestones of early recovery according to Dr. Custer’s book.
  • Participants will be given tools to help aid the clients in “early” recovery stage.
