Iowa's Annual Governor's Conference on Substance Use, Prevention, Treatment and Recovery (GCSU)

Sponsored by Iowa HHS, GCSU 2024 runs from April 23 to 25, 2024. A three-hour pre-conference ethics session is on April 23. This ethic session for clinicians, prevention specialists and peers.

The main conference is on April 24 to 25, 2025. Each day will include six hours of continuing education delivered by amazing speakers. Anyone interested in learning about substance use prevention, treatment and recovery may attend.


This year, we have three speakers from the SAMHSA:

  • Tom Coderre, Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Deputy Assistant Secretary
  • CAPT Christopher Jones, Pharm.D., Dr.P.H.,M.P.H. Director of the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP)
  • Paolo del Vecchio, M.S.W., Director of the Office of Recovery

Who Should Attend?   

Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Social Workers, Mental Health Clinicians, Recovery Coaches or Peer Support Specialists, Medical Personnel, Collegiate Recovery Staff, Prevention Specialists, and anyone who wants to learn more!
