Nuture your mental healthSometimes, every day life can feel overwhelming. Stress at work, responsibilities at home and unexpected challenges can make it feel difficult to get through basic tasks. If life is feeling harder than normal, Your Life Iowa can help.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s possible you’re experiencing “burn out.” Identifying burnout and being proactive can help you feel well and manage your mental health.

Anyone can experience burn out, including at work, at home, or in relationships. Symptoms of burnout can include:

  • chronic feelings of exhaustion
  • increased mental distance from an area of life (such as work, parenting, etc.)
  • feelings of negativism or cynicism related to an area of life

It’s important to do regular reflections to identify if you’re feeling burnt out in an area of your life. Operating long term from a place of “burn out” can drastically decrease mental wellness, lower your ability to cope with stress, and lower your overall quality of life.

Practicing regular self-care can help prevent burn out. Self-care is any positive practice that helps you feel mentally, physically, and emotionally well. Self-care activities can include things like regular physical exercise, watching a favorite TV show or going for a walk.
