The Intersection of Homelessness Prevention: Overview and Strategies for Prevention Professionals

Housing insecurity and homelessness are often unseen, and yet pervasive problems that impact the day to day lives and futures of many Iowans. This webinar will provide an overview of:

· What homelessness looks like across America and specifically in Iowa

· The impact of the pandemic on homelessness

· The relationship between homelessness and other behavioral health issues, including substance misuse

· How to move homelessness prevention services “upstream”

· Reducing barriers in accessing prevention services, including programs for youth and/or parents, for families experiencing housing instability or homelessness

· Leveraging collaborative relationships to benefit shared outcomes

About the presenter: Cody Crawford, Iowa Department of Public Health

Cody Crawford has been involved in local community activism for the last ten years, working with businesses, non-profits, and elected officials to affect change. For the last four years, he worked with Area Substance Abuse Council in Cedar Rapids. He first started by doing work in Prevention and has continued that mindset in working with the homeless population. Cody currently manages a homelessness grant for the Iowa Department of Public Health. He sits on the Iowa Council on Homelessness and works in both Linn and Clinton Counties to improve the homeless continuum of care, including providing services to this population.
