The Governor’s Conference on Substance Abuse has a new name! Governor’s Conference on Substance Use Prevention, Treatment and Recovery, also known as GCSU.
We are proud to align our name with the work we do in prevention, treatment and recovery. The GCSU annual event will be held virtually with a preconference on April
25th to include Ethics. Our main conference will be held April 26th and 27th.

This session will continue the process of client find and where disordered gamblers are more likely to congregate and where they are likely to go to seek help.

This session will introduce counselors on outreach techniques that are effective in client identity and referral.

- Participants will understand where gamblers go to gamble and where they generally seek initial help
- Participants will compare those places with where SUD and MH patients go and where they seek initial help
Managing Gambling Recovery – Part 2
This session will concentrate on dual diagnosis research and the implications on recovery.
Objectives:
- Participants will understand the implications of the recovery similarities and differences between Substance Use, Mental Health and Gambling Disorders as advanced by research.
- Participants will be able to discuss the implications of the latest research
Managing Gambling Recovery – Part 1
This session will discuss the latest research and the implications to improving treatment outcomes for those diagnosed with a gambling disorder.

This session will introduce the need for a relationship with the justice system to help in diagnosing and treating disordered gambling clients.

Gambling: Family Dynamics – Part 2
This session will discuss the ongoing need for family involvement in the recovery process.

- Participants will understand the use of finances as a part of family recovery from a gambling disorder.
- Participants will be introduced to tools used to help in family recovery.

This session will introduce the family role in recovery and the diagnostics used to help family members understand their role in addiction.

Gambling: Finances – Part 4
This session covers the counselor’s ongoing role in maintaining the budgeting process to insure “pressure relief” and the ability to continue in the recovery process.
Objectives:
Gambling: Finances – Part 3
This session will help counselors deal with creditors and others in developing a restitution plan to pay back all those they have harmed.
Objectives:
- Participants will be introduced to questions needed to complete for an accurate budget to be completed.
- Participants will be given hands on testing of the tools based on their own budgeting skills.
